The Magical Bound

Robert Smith and Kitty Garrity have written a children's book, "The Magical Bound", that makes for pleasurable and instructional reading for any young horse lover.

If you have young readers in the house, they're sure to enjoy the rhyming couplet format of this book. If you have occasion to read to youngsters, this book would be a splendid choice. Either way, young people will learn about the difficulties their elders face in preserving horse farms in the face of modern urban sprawl. By paying attention to characters' names and making use of the book's glossary, children can also expand their knowledge of tack.

The book is beautifully illustrated. Even kids too young to read can relive the story line by paging through the watercolors used throughout.

Magic is sometimes described as an extension of the physical world. And surely magical forces are working in this setting. On the back cover of the book the "players" invite us to join them in their "mystical" (sometimes defined as a transcendence of the physical) world. But more than transcending their surroundings, these characters instruct horse lovers about the real world and the real life difficulties it presents.

The book has a soft but thick cover and contains about 40 pages in 8.5" x 11" landscape format.

It is priced at $16.95.
