The HorseWorldData Philosophy
The HorseWorldData site is based on three convictions:
1. The Internet should provide a means for any entity to display its contact information at no cost to the organization, and to advertise inexpensively.
- Any horse related entity fitting into the numerous categories offered on HWD, will be allowed a free listing or a free link, at HWD's sole discretion, from HWD to that organization's Internet site.
- HWD is divided into eight sections. They are "Breeds", "Publications", "Racing", "Schools & Libraries", "Sports/Events", "Vacations", "Organizations" & "Merchandise". HWD offers advertising on all pages of any one of these sections for $200 per year. We also offer advertising on all pages of a section plus on the HorseWorldData.com home page for $300 per year.
2. The greatest value of the Internet is its ability to provide knowledge -- defined as "an organized body of information" -- at no cost to the surfer.
- HWD believes that information should be available to Web users at no cost, similar to the way library information is available to the public.
- We also believe that classified listings of compiled information, especially if both interesting and otherwise hard to find, is the type of material well suited to Internet exploration.
- HWD has made a concerted effort, by limiting its own graphics, to minimize the time required to find and access hypertext destinations where more graphics are appropriate. Our graphics are primarily meant to function as color coded navigational aides to assist in researching our wealth of information.
3. One of the greatest challenge in having a presence on the Web is gaining the traffic desired.
- HWD has established a home for a variety of information about horses and their use for pleasure as well as business worldwide. The number of listings and their varying nature makes our site a credible stop for horse lovers of all types.
- Like many sites, HWD links to other related Web sites. However, we have chosen to embed these links into the body of the site instead of at a spot on the site dedicated to links. This practice positions hyperlinks in their proper category within our site and allows for discovery of non-hyperlink listings that may be of interest to the surfer. Our combination of linked and non-linked listings draws surfers looking for other sites as well as those only looking for information within our site.
